If you need to replace a missing tooth (or teeth), a dental implant is usually the best solution.

Dental Implants involve surgically placing metal posts in your jawbone to act as the root of the tooth. These posts will then connect to a bridge, denture, or crown, and be treated like a natural tooth. Talk to Dr. Lopez Bhushan in Flower Mound, TX to see if a dental implant is the right solution to replace your missing tooth.

dental implants - Best Candidates

Implants are typically the best solution to replace one or multiple missing teeth. The great thing about dental implants is that you can treat them just like your regular teeth – with typical daily flossing and brushing. At your appointment, Dr. Lopez Bhushan will take x-rays and evaluate the health of your jawbone and gums to determine if you are a good candidate for dental implants. It’s possible that you might need bone or gum graft surgery prior to implant surgery to strengthen your mouth.

dental implants - What to Expect

Prior to having your dental implant, you may need to have a tooth extraction or gum and bone grafts. Patients are given local anesthesia to numb the mouth. The procedure will start with an incision in your gums so the post can be placed into your jawbone. Dr. Lopez Bhushan will review your implant in four to six months to make sure it is healing properly into your jaw and gums. Afterwards, your bridge, denture, or crown will be connected to your implant.

dental implants - RECOVERY

It’s possible that you might experience some inflammation in or around your mouth and lower face afterwards. Some patients may also have some bruising or minor bleeding immediately following the procedure. Dr. Lopez Bhushan will discuss any side effects post-surgery and will manage your pain by providing you a prescription for pain relievers and antibiotics before and after surgery. Dr. Lopez Bhushan will monitor the health of your mouth and condition of your implants and let you know if your implant is healing or not.

Insurance Coverage

Depending upon your dental insurance, there is a possibility that your implants could potentially be covered.  We will talk to your dental insurance company to understand your coverage and determine your personal cost. At your initial consultation with Dr. Lopez Bhushan, she can estimate your expenses and provide additional options.
