braces - best candidates

Adults or children that have alignment issues, crowded or spaced teeth, under or over bites, crooked, and protruding smile are all good candidates for braces.

braces - what to expect

Each patient is different but typically most patients spend one to two years in braces. Once the braces are placed on the teeth, the patient will have to return about every four to six weeks for an adjustment until the treatment is completed.

Prior to placing the braces, cephalometric and panoramic x-rays have to be taken, then Dr. Lopez Bhushan reviews your x-rays to see what type of treatment you will need. Dr. Lopez Bhushan will clean and air-dry your teeth before the braces application begins. Next, Dr. Lopez Bhushan will put a bonding agent on each tooth and position each bracket in the center of the crown of each tooth. The procedure is pretty painless.

braces - follow-up

It’s normal after the braces are placed that you will experience discomfort, even soreness. This discomfort usually disappears after a few days. To sooth the soreness, Dr. Bhushan Lopez recommends taking ibuprofen. She will also give you a list of foods that are good to eat with braces and also list some foods that you should typically avoid: hard candy, chewy or sticky food. It is also best to brush after every meal so food debris doesn’t get stuck in your braces.

You will have to return about every four to six weeks so Dr. Lopez Bhushan can review the progress of your teeth and make necessary adjustments. It is important that you comply with the elastic wear. After your treatment is complete, you will be fit for a retainer to keep your teeth in their new position.

insurance coverage

Braces may be covered partly by your dental insurance or not at all. Glorious Smiles will get in touch with your insurer to find out your coverage and your remaining costs.
